Gladyce Zarling, 76

Karlstad - Gladyce S. Zarling, 76, died Monday, April 16, 2001 at Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Rev. Gary Halverson officiating. Music was provided by organist Ellen Johnson and soloist Todd Porter. Honorary casketbearers were Arvid Bagaas, Todd Porter, Scott Fossell, Todd Fossell, Lee Kleven and Terry Tureson. Arrangements were with Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock.

Gladyce Selma Thompson was born on April 30, 1924 near Karlstad, the daughter of Sievert and Carrie (Hanson) Thompson. She attended school at Karlstad.

On May 6, 1956 she was united in marriage to Reinhart Zarling. The couple made their home near Karlstad where they were engaged in farming for a time. Gladyce was also employed at Karlstad Healthcare Center until her retirement. Reinhart died on November 22, 1996.

Gladyce was a member of First Lutheran Church of Karlstad.

Survivors include three sons, James (Eleanor) Halvorson and Harvey Zarling, both of Karlstad, and Reinhart (Cindy) Zarling Jr. of Badger; two daughters, Helen (Al) Fredericks-Sandys of Romeo, Mich. and Ione Trenbath of Eveleth; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Violet (Martin) Martinson of Grafton, N.D., Ann Restemeyer of Cavalier, N.D., Eleanore Olson of Lancaster, Norma Bristlin of Karlstad, Clarice Thompson of Grand Forks, N.D., Yvonne (Tom) Budnick of Thief River Falls and Connie (Bill) Mantor of Crystal; and three brothers, Norman (Wanda) Thompson of Grafton, N.D., Duane Thompson of Seymour, Ind. and Jerry Thompson of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc.

Gladyce was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Clarence Halvorson and Reinhart Zarling; a brother, Clifford; and a daughter, Jean Parker. A00003B2000AP25
