Wood, 84
East
Grand Forks - Robert Wood, 84, formerly of
Thief River Falls, died Friday, November 30, 2001
at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fargo,
N.D.
Services were held Tuesday, December 4, at 11 a.m.
at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls.
Burial was in the Community Cemetery near St.
Hilaire.
Robert
Wood was born on May 29, 1917 in Bray Township of
Pennington County, the son of Melvin Henry and Cora
E. (Norman) Wood. He attended elementary school in
rural District 169 before going to work at a
Civilian Conservation Camp. On March 18, 1943, he
entered the US Army and served until his honorable
discharge on December 18, 1945.
On
May 26, 1942, Robert was united in marriage to
Elizabeth Jane Reed in Thief River Falls. The
couple moved to Two Harbors where he owned and
operated a Mobil gas station. The couple returned
to Thief River Falls where he owned and operated a
Mobil station. He later went to work for
Forkenbrock Garage before beginning employment as a
truck mechanic with L.B. Hartz. He retired in
1974.
In
1981, Bob and Barb Pearson retired to Hazel Flats.
Barb died on June 19, 1995. In January, 2001, Bob
moved to East Grand Forks with his daughter, Judy,
and her husband, Bert.
He
was a member of the VFW and Eagles in Thief River
Falls.
Bob
enjoyed woodworking, hunting, gardening, visiting
with family and friends and going to rummage
sales.
Survivors
include a son, Robert (Brenda) Wood of Watertown,
N.Y.; two daughters, Judy (Bert) Roberts of East
Grand Forks and Linda Marie (David Schaeffer) Wood
of Graham, N.C.; three grandchildren; four sisters,
Helen (Clarence) Mellem of Libby, Mont., Jean Wold
and Dorothy (Bernard) Wold, both of Thief River
Falls and Betty (Edward) Miller of Defiance, Ohio;
many nieces and nephews; and Barb's children and
their families: Vicki (Larry) Larson of Cayahoga
Falls, Ohio, Mark (Carol) Pearson of LeClaire,
Iowa, CoCo (Gordy) Jensen and Char (Rick) Swanson,
both of Thief River Falls, and Annette (Lawrence)
Normandin of New Ulm.
Robert
was preceded in death by his parents; three
brothers, Edward, Darrell and Chester; three
sisters, Evelyn Kron, Harriet Carpenter and Hazel
Kron; and special friend, Barbara Pearson.
