William Wolff, 82

Greenbush - William Wolff, 82, formerly of Pelan, died Sunday, December 30, 2001 at the Greenbush Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 4, at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Rev. Ken Hart officiating. Eileen Kilen was the organist, and the vocalists were Corena Green and Donna Anderson. Casketbearers were Edsel Anderson, Doug Dahl, Donald Melby, Merton Kirkeide, Orleen Anderson and Norman Svegdahl. Military honors were accorded by Moen-Zimek American Legion Post 88 of Greenbush. Interment was in United Free-Pauli Lutheran Cemetery, rural Greenbush, with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.

William Edward Wolff was born on September 21, 1919 in Twin Brooks, S.D., the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Weinrebe-Beckman) Wolff. As an infant, he moved with his parents to Roseau County where he grew up and attended school near Roseau. William lived in Kittson County before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. During World War II, he served in northern France and the Rhineland of Central Europe before being discharged in 1945.

On September 15, 1954, William married Orpha Berhardson at Greenbush. The couple resided in Lind Township near Greenbush before moving to their farm at Pelan. They resided on the farm for 46 years and moved into Greenbush in the summer of 2001.

William is survived by his wife, Orpha Wolff; a son, Wayne Wolff of Thief River Falls; two grandsons; two brothers, Eddy (Betty Jane) Wolff of Karlstad and Robert Wolff of California; three sisters, Bertha Wolff of California, Clara (Lloyd) Hermanson of Karlstad and Alice (Dick) Hubson of Oklahoma; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herbert Wolff; and a sister, Olga Erickson. A00003B2002JA09
