Bernard Wold, 88

Thief River Falls - Bernard Wold, 88, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Wold obit Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Arlen Hermodson officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, and Alissa Reierson was the soloist. Reader was Vanessa Kehren. Casketbearers were Karl Kehren, Roger Reierson, Darryl Hendrickson, Mike Bell, Andy Reierson, Jim Veerkamp, Brian Goede, and David Hoefer. Military honors were accorded by Thief River Falls Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Bernard Jerome Wold was born on March 11, 1914 in Trail, the son of Adolph Joseph and Octavia (Bredeson) Wold. He grew up and attended a rural school near Thief River Falls. Bernard farmed before entering the service. He was as a medical technician in the U.S. Army from May of 1942 until his honorable discharge in January of 1946, serving in New Guinea and the Philippines.

On June 19, 1947, Bernard was united in marriage to Dorothy Valerie Wood in Thief River Falls. After leaving the military, Bernard became a partner in Shumway and Wold Oil Company. After his retirement in 1979, he took on additional careers, picking up and delivering parts for Alvin Wold and planting Chet Wood's garden.

Bernard was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, and a lifetime member and past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, drives in the country, playing solitaire, children, and especially, spending time with his family.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Dorothy; six daughters, Janis Carpenter of Thief River Falls, Peggy Jo Wagner of Hastings, Arlene (Roger) Reierson of Moorhead, Valerie (Darryl) Hendrickson of Minneapolis, Kim (Mike) Bell of Tacoma, Wash. And Carol Wheeler of Winona; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two special nieces; two brothers, Alvin and Virgil (Dorothy) Wold, both of Thief River Falls; and a sister, Mildred Peterson of Thief River Falls.

Preceding him in death were two grandchildren, Rachel and Ben Hendrickson; his parents; and three brothers, Selmer, Frank, and Vernon. A00003B2002MY08
