Nina Winjum, 95

Odessa, Texas - Nina Winjum, 95, died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at the Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.

A memorial service was held Saturday, February 9, at First Presbyterian Church in Odessa. Burial will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangement.

Nina Lenora Langlie was born on April 16, 1906 in Pelican Rapids, the daughter of Gunnleig and Antonette Langlie. After graduating from Pelican High School, she earned a teaching certificate from Moorhead State College.

While teaching school in Middle River, Nina met and later married James Winjum on June 11, 1931. The couple moved to Thief River Falls where James owned Hartz Supermarket until his death in 1963. Nina remained in Thief River Falls until 1994 when she moved to Odessa, Texas.

In Thief River Falls, Nina was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, James (Kathleen) Winjum of Pelican Rapids; a daughter, Diane (John) Cunningham of Odessa, Texas; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Nina was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six sisters, four brothers, and one grandson. A00003B2002FB13
