John Willers, 90

Thief River Falls - John Willers, 90, died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at Willers Obit 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Don Kirchner officiating. Elaine Idso will be the organist, and Joel Kezar will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Dale Kopecky, Dan Kopecky, Mike Kopecky, Paul Puppe, Tom Puppe and Willis Puppe. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery in Euclid.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

John Henry Willers was born on February 16, 1911 at home in the Euclid are, the son of Henry and Katie (Gossen) Willers. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Euclid. John served as his parents' caregiver and worked on the family farm until his retirement in 1968.

On April 8, 1978, he was united in marriage to Helen Puppe at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Helen died on June 21, 2001.

John was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed dancing and playing cards.

Survivors include several nephews and a niece; three stepsons, Willis (Bonnie) Puppe of Drayton, N.D. and Paul Puppe and Tom (Zeffy) Puppe, both of Thief River Falls; a stepdaughter-in-law, Ann Puppe of Cavalier, N.D.; 13 step-grandchildren; and 27 step great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; a stepson, Earl Puppe; four sisters, Mary Kopecky, Katie Luxemberg, Lydia Dargus and Louise Kopecky; and a step grandson-in-law. A00003B2002JA16
