Thief
River Falls - Leonard Wik, 74, died Friday,
March 1, 2002 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo,
N.D.
Funeral
services were held
Tuesday,
March 5, at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in
Thief River Falls with Rev. Marcia Sylvester
officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, and
the soloist was Jan Nordin.
Casketbearers
were Roger Swanson, Harlan Mostrom, Larry Carriere,
Kenny Halvorson, John Vik, and Terry Timm. Honorary
casketbearers were Carl Hallquist, Jennings Jenson,
Les Kulseth, and Lester Schneider. Military honors
were accorded by VFW Post 2793 and American Legion
Post 117 of Thief River Falls. Interment was in
Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green
Funeral Home in charge of the
arrangements.
Leonard
Arthur Wik was born on July 6, 1927 in Thief River
Falls, the son of Sigurd Peter and Louise J.
(Rosett) Wik. He was baptized on July 26, 1927 at
Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire and attended
country schools, St. Hilaire School, and Lincoln
High School in Thief River Falls.
On
November 28, 1945, he entered the United States
Army Air Force and was honorably discharged on
December 30, 1946. He received basic training in
California, served in Iceland, and received the
World War II Victory Medal.
On
May 20, 1950, Leonard was united in marriage to
Lorraine Peterson in St. Hilaire. Following their
marriage, Leonard worked as an electrician for Best
Electric in Thief River Falls, drove truck for
Peterson-Biddick, worked at Dow Key, Inc., and
Midland Co-op at night. He worked as a shop
supervisor at Forsberg, Inc. for 28 years, and
following his retirement, worked at Halverson Glass
Farms and the ODC as a forklift operator and truck
driver. Due to ill health, Leonard retired in
1996.
He
was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a
lifetime member of VFW Post 2793 in Thief River
Falls.
Leonard
enjoyed camping and fishing at Lake of the Woods,
having coffee and visiting with relatives and
friends, and especially, spending time with his
grandchildren.
Survivors
include his wife, Lorraine of Thief River Falls;
two sons, Galen Wik of Minneapolis and Gregory Wik
of Honolulu, Hawaii; a daughter, Julie (Alvin) Byre
of Badger; four grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Wik of
Thief River Falls; a sister, Helen Borsheim of Eau
Claire, Wisc.; and several nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
Leonard
was preceded in death by his parents and a brother,
Robert "Bobbie" Wik. A00003B2002MR06
