W. Wegge, 80
Holt-
George W. Wegge, 80, of Holt, died on Friday,
August 16, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC
Unit, in Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services will be held on
Wednesday,
August 21 (today) at 10 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran
Church in Holt with Rev. David Pretty officiating.
Yvonne Larson will be the organist and Cathy
Erickson will be the soloist. Musical selections
will include "Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer My God
To Thee." Honorary casketbearers will be all those
who attend the service. Visitation was held on
Tuesday, August 20 beginning at 6 p.m. with 7 p.m.
prayer service at the church. Visitation will also
take place one hour prior to services at the
church.
George
Walter Wegge was born on August 3, 1922, the son of
Walter and Helen (Timm) Wegge in East Valley
Township of Marshall County. The family moved to
Egeland, N.D. for a time and returned to settle
their permanent farmstead near Holt when George was
12 years old. He was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith.
George
bought a farmstead from his uncle, Fred Wegge. On
June 4, 1949, he married Clara Thoreson in Roseau
and the couple made their home on the
farmstead.
George
dedicated his life to providing for others by
farming, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a
life-long member of Nazareth Lutheran Church of
Holt and served on the former Holt School Board. He
also served on the Holt Town Board for several
years.
Survivors
include his wife, Clara; one son, Dean (Brenda) of
Holt; four daughters, Cynthia (Marvin) Soland of
Rockford, Deborah (Ken) Willert of Miller, S.D.,
Roberta Anderson of Thief River Falls and Jennifer
Wegge of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; five sisters, Marilyn (Ron)
Neal of Sioux Falls, S.D., Evelyn (Ralph) Jorgenson
of Bella Vista, Ariz., Carol Palmer of Bossier
City, La., Sharon (Myron) Olberg of Holt and Bonita
Elseth of Crookston; and several nieces, nephews
and other relatives.
George
was preceded in death by his parents; one brother,
Lorence, in infancy; and four sisters, Sylvia
Dyrdahl, Fern Johnson, Adiline Luggar and Jean
Landree.
