Thief
River Falls - James Weckwerth, 59, died on
Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center
in Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April
10 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls
with the Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Ida
Nordvall will be the organist and Diane Johnson
will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Ward
Brink, Davis Holthuson, Jack Nelson, Jim Haugen,
Greg Harris and Blair Holthuson. Honorary
casketbearers will be all of Jim's friends and
co-workers at Arctic Cat and members of
Fourtown/Grygla Sportsman's Club. Interment will be
in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from
4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9 (today) at
Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls
with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will
also be held for one hour prior to services at the
church on Thursday.
Jim
Weckwerth was born on January 18, 1944, the son of
E. Clarence and Myrtle (Nelson) Weckwerth, in Thief
River Falls. He was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith at St. Pauli Lutheran Church. He
attended elementary school in St. Hilaire and
attended Lincoln High School and Northland
Community College, both in Thief River
Falls.
On March
7, 1961, he married Ruth Sharon Hanson in Thief
River Falls. The couple lived in Kansas City, Kan.,
for four years, where Jim worked for the railroad.
In 1965, they returned to Thief River Falls and Jim
went to work for Hartz Wholesale, where he worked
as a truck driver and field representative. In
1994, Jim went to work for Arctic Cat, where he
started in the fiberglass department. From there,
he worked his way into being one of the
service-training instructors. This job took him to
differents parts of the world. For several years,
he enjoyed the Arctic Blast Charity Ride with the
Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed deer hunting, which
he called "holy week." He loved spending time at
his cabin and enjoyed golfing, fishing and camping.
Jim was a member of the Fourtown/Grygla Sportsman's
Club and the Sons of the American Legion.
Survivors
include sons, James, Jr. of Thief River Falls, and
David (Tawnia) of Seattle, Wash.; eight
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his mother,
Myrtle Erickson of Thief River Falls; brother,
Eugene (Eunice) of Fairbanks, Alaska; sisters,
Myrna Weckwerth of Squamish, B.C., Canada, Alyce
Weckwerth of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Julie Jasperson
of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
James was
preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his father,
Clarence; and his sister, Lorrie.
