Blanche Waterworth, 72

Newfolden - Blanche Waterworth, 72, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at her home in rural Newfolden.

Funeral services were held on Waterworth, Blancheo Monday, November 18 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Rev. John Jorgensen officiating. Diane Waterworth was the organist and Wendy Blazejewski was the soloist. Special music included "Borning Cry" and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow." Casketbearers were Michael Waterworth, Gene Waterworth, Joel Waterworth, Richard Waterworth, Dawn Waterworth, Jennifer Waterworth, Christofer Waterworth, Kyle Waterworth, Keli Waterworth, Reed Waterworth, Katie Waterworth, Trace Waterworth and Taylor Waterworth. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden.

Blanche Mortensen was born on September 27, 1930, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Betts) Mortensen in rural Argyle. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended country school in northwestern Minnesota. On October 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Aaron Waterworth in Newfolden. The couple made their home in West Valley Township, near Newfolden. The family occasionally migrated to the Iron Range where Aaron worked on the taconite plants and for Erie Mining Company, while maintaining the family farm near Newfolden.

Blanche was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing. She made quilts for her family and for World Relief through Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden. She enjoyed reading and making lefse, and every Sunday, enjoyed her time with friends, Vernette Stokke, Sharon Gustafson and Gloria Anderson. Blanche was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden where she was a deacon and was active in WELCA. She also worked as an election judge for West Valley Township.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Waterworth of Minneapolis; four sons, Mike (Deborah) of Thief River Falls, Gene (Alice) of Fargo, N.D., Joel (Lori) of Thief River Falls and Richard of Fargo, N.D.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; seven brothers and sisters, Myrtle Holmstrom of South St. Paul, Andy (Shirley) Mortensen of Mora, Dale (Carol) Mortensen of Heron, S.D., Arthur Mortensen of Thief River Falls, Gerald (Carol) Mortensen of Strandquist, Orville (Jane) Mortensen of Montrose and Karen (Kenneth) Peterson of Ellsworth, Wisc.

Blanche was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron; brothers, Allen, Melvin and John Mortensen; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Holmstrom. A00003B2002NV20
