Betty Waterworth, 72

Newfolden - Betty Waterworth, 72, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at her home in Newfolden.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 16, at Bethania Free obit-Waterworth, Bett#3D112 Lutheran Church in Newfolden, with Reverend Dennis Gray officiating. Casket bearers included Betty's grandchildren &endash; Jenny, Nina, Stephanie, Erika, Miki, Matt, Marcus, Shari, Brenda, Jacob, Dylan, Becky, Arik, Brianna and Bailey. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, in Newfolden.

Betty Jean Schmitke was born September 15, 1931 in Donaldson, to Carl and Alvina (Baier) Schmitke. She grew up in rural Stephen, where she was raised in the Christian Faith. In 1949, she graduated from Stephen High School.

In September 1951, Betty was married to William Waterworth of Newfolden. The couple made their home and raised their family on their farm northwest of Newfolden.

Betty was active as a 4-H volunteer leader. She taught Sunday School and worked with the Ladies Aid at Bethania Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden. She also enjoyed reading and gardening.

Survivors include seven children: Barbara (Michael) Flanery of Plymouth, Kathryn (Charles) Phillips of Brooklyn Park, Timothy (Diane) of Viking, Stephen (Lori) of Salol, Donald of Newfolden, Gail (Bruce) Bjorgaard of Newfolden, and Carol (Richard) Culkins of Plummer; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Bugge of Sacramento, Calif. and Mildred (Emery) Horien of Thief River Falls; brothers, Harold (Doris) of Virginia, Arnold (Hedy) of Aurora, Otto (Mary) of Sandy, Utah, Irvin (Janice) of Thief River Falls and Martin (Joyce) Schmitke of Morris, Ill.; and severa nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; a son, Petter; her parents; sisters, Freida Varland, Agnes Ostrem and Amy Gutterud; and brother, Carl. A00003B2004FB18
