Ray Warne, 86

Grygla - Ray Warne, 86, died Friday, August 17, 2001 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at Ray Warne photo 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev. Paul Knutson officiating. Kim Cleven will be the organist, and the soloist will be Lisa Verbout.

Casketbearers will be Ray's grandsons: Gary Jones, Brian Jones, Bruce Jones, Sherman Jones, Marlan Warne Jr., Ryan Warne, Dean Warne, Jason Warne, Denton Warne, Chad Warne, Gary Warne, Tracy Dunham, Wade Dunham, Jeremy DcDonagh, Chris Warne and Nick Warne. His granddaughters, including Pamela Jubie, Cynthia Janish, Kelsey Warne, Jennifer Slater, Shawna Dunham and Trisha McDonagh, will serve as honorary casketbearers. Interment will be in Valle Cemetery in Benville township of Beltrami county.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service today (Wednesday, August 22) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Raymond Donald Warne was born on December 23, 1914 in Mount Ayr, Ind., the son of Jesse and Mabel (Standish) Warne. When Ray was an infant, the family moved to the Schilling area and then to Grygla in 1916. In 1920, they moved to a farm near Gatzke and lived there until 1929 when they returned to Indiana. In 1934, the family moved back to the Grygla area.

On September 25, 1938, he married Alpha Irene Rogers in Fourtown. The couple lived and farmed in the Grygla area for many years. Ray was baptized and confirmed as an adult at Grace Lutheran Church. Alpha died in 1997.

Ray was a baseball enthusiast, playing and pitching for the Grygla baseball team for many years. He also enjoyed involvement in the Republican party, deer hunting, playing the harmonica, playing horseshoes and especially, dancing.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice Jones of Goodridge and Sandra (Lloyd) Dunham and Gayle (Bruce) Rosenow, both of Roseau; five sons, Marlan (Marge) of Strathcona, Lyle (Linda) of Groveland, Fla., Wayne (Sandy) of Grygla, Russell (Pauline) of Warroad and Dale (Sherry) of Roseau; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Tollefson of Grygla; two brothers, Allen "Jack" Warne of Grygla and Robert Warne of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; six grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Gilbert and Delos; a sister, Alice Nordby; and a son-in-law, Wallace Jones. A00003B2001AG22
