Wappula, 64
Middle
River - Arne Wappula, 64, died Friday, August
24, 2001 at his home in Cedar township of Marshall
county near Middle River.
Services
were held at 2 p.m on
Monday,
August 27, at First Lutheran Church in Middle River
with Rev. Mary Ronning officiating. Special music
was provided by Barb Geer and Lois Peterson.
Casketbearers were Dean Hemp, Ernest Hemp, Jason
Black, Arne Rantanen, Joe Bukowski and Arland
Brandon. Interment was in the Finnish Lutheran
Cemetery in Middle River with Collins Funeral Home
of Middle River in charge of the
arrangements.
Arne
Richard Wappula was born on March 1, 1937 in Middle
River, the son of John K. and Saima (Karvonen)
Wappula. He was baptized on July 1, 1937 in the
Finnish Lutheran faith. Arne was stricken with
polio in 1946 and spent several months at the
Gillette Hospital. He was confirmed at First
Lutheran Church in Middle River on May 11, 1952. In
1956, he graduated from Middle River High School.
Following graduation, he worked for a painting
company in Wisconsin. Arne later worked for a
company in Anoka and in 1967 began his employment
with Arctic Enterprises in Thief River Falls,
working as a welder there until 1980. He then
farmed until 1997.
Arne
was a member of First Lutheran Church of Middle
River.
He
enjoyed fishing, farming, hunting and taking drives
through the countryside with his dog,
Boots.
Arne
is survived by his mother, Saima of Middle River;
two brothers, Ernest (Virginia) of Hugo and Melvin
(Diane) of Middle River; a sister, Marge (David)
Bakke of Newfolden; and several nieces, nephews,
cousins and other relatives.
He
was preceded in death by his father.
