Gladys Walseth, 81

Thief River Falls - Gladys Walseth, 81, died Friday, March 30, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 Walseth Obit p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Barb Hauger was the organist, and special music was provided by granddaughter Brandi Ose, Jerry Stormo and Al Walseth, and the Walseth family. Casketbearers were all of Gladys' children. Honorary casketbearers included her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Interment was in St. Hilaire Community Cemetery with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys Josephine Skalet was born on May 8, 1919 at home in Mayfield township of Red Lake county, the daughter of Arthur and Lena (Warstad) Skalet. She was confirmed at Ebenezer Church and attended Peppy-Inn Country School, District 60 in Mayfield township.

On September 7, 1940, Gladys was united in marriage to Harold Walseth in St. Hilaire. The couple settled east of St. Hilaire on the Walseth family farm. In 1957, they moved to another place east of St. Hilaire, and in 1959, the couple moved to a farm northeast of Thief River Falls in North township. Harold and Gladys moved into Thief River Falls in 1972. Harold died on August 12, 1980.

In addition to raising her family and continuing to care for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Gladys enjoyed flower gardens, bingo, dancing, crocheting and music.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and Calvary Lutheran Church of St. Hilaire.

Gladys is survived by four daughters, Marie (George) Owens of Angus, Jane (Paul) O'Gorman of Hopkins, Karen (Roger) Hruby of Goodridge and Annette "Chickie" (Gary) Peterson of Thief River Falls; seven sons, Roy (Barb) of Sheridan, Wy., and Al (Eileen), Ed (Mary), Lee (Hollie), Wally (Mary), Lyle (Arlene) and Scott (Lori Ann), all of Thief River Falls; 38 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Tillie Haugen of Sheridan, Wy., Helen Sampley of Thief River Falls, Stella (Edwin) Halvorson of Trail and Myrtle Skalet and Muriel Skalet, both of Red Lake Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Vernon in 1972; a brother, Alton Skallet; asister, Selma Peterson; a granddaughter, Bonita Owens; and special friend, Garfield Iverson. A00003B2000AP04
