Selma Waldal, 90

Plummer - Selma "Sally" Waldal, died Selma Waldal Friday, February 8, 2002 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, February 13) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Rev. Frank Ehling officiating. Linda Olson will be the organist, and Merlin and Judy Carlson will be the vocalists. Casketbearers will include Sally's nephews, Mike Seeger, Steve Seeger, Brad Seeger, Larry Waldal, John Waldal, and Paul Waldal. Burial will be in Emardville Cemetery in Plummer.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday February 12, at Johnson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Selma Josephine Waldal was born on February 27, 1911 in Emardville Township near Plummer, the daughter of Alfred J. and Clara (Olson) Waldal. She attended a rural school and later the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston.

Selma did sewing for people in Oklee and from 1945 to 1949, owned and operated a dress making shop in Portland, Ore. During the war, she worked at Boeing and then returned to Red Lake Falls where she operated a dress shop for a few years. She also worked as a seamstress at Narverud Cleaners in Thief River Falls. Later on, Selma moved to Chicago, Ill., where she worked as a dress fitter for Marshall Fields for 18-1/2 years.

Before returning to Plummer in 1989, Selma lived in Tucson, Ariz. for 9-1/2 years. She then moved to Riverside Apartments in Thief River Falls where she resided for 9-1/2 years before moving to Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls on May 29, 1998.

Selma enjoyed traveling, journeying to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark several times. She also enjoyed writing letters and sewing.

Survivors include two brothers, James (Lydia) of Vancouver, Wash. and Lawrence of Plummer; six sisters, Clara Auch of Bradbury, Calif., Marie Seeger of Red Lake Falls, Beatrice (Clayton) Larson of Plummer, Rosella (Kenneth) McDonald of Marrillville, Ind., Helen (Wayne) Ober of Flat Rock, Mich. and Carolyn (Wesley) Myhre of Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.

Selma was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alvin Waldal; her stepmother, Rose Waldal; a sister-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
