- Gwendolyn Wahl, 99, of Greenbush, died on
Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Greenbush Nursing
Home.
Funeral
services were held on
Tuesday,
July 6, in Oiland Lutheran Church in rural
Greenbush, with Pastor LeRoy Flickinger
officiating. Casket bearers included Chris and Dale
Hamness, Darrell Miller, Wayne, Kenny and Zachary
Hanson, Robert and Earl Wahl, Scott Zak and Aaron
Strandberg. Interment was held at Oiland Lutheran
Cemetery.
Gwen
Wahl was born Gwendolyn Elizabeth Skerritt, the
daughter of George and Margaret Skerritt on May 10,
1905 in Dublin, Ireland. She immigrated to the
United States as a child with her parents and
brother, settling in Scobey, Mont. As a young girl
she loved to race horses.
Gwendolyn
married Arnold Wahl on October 11, 1932 in
Plentywood, Mont. After their marriage, they moved
to a farm north of Greenbush where they milked cows
and raised beef cattle. She also worked as a nurse
for several years in Thief River Falls. Arnold Wahl
died in 1980. They were members of the Oiland
Lutheran Church.
Gwen
is survived by four daughters, Fern (Melford)
Nelson of Badger, Juanita (Charles) Newquist of
Alamogordo, N.M., Nora (Chrest) Hamness of
Strathcona and Sonja (Raymond) Hanson of
Strathcona; one son, Oswald "Buzz" Wahl of
Strathcona; 16 grandchildren; 29
great-grandchildren; and six
great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elma
Skerritt of Glendive, Mont. and Edna Wahl Melby of
Greenbush; and special relatives, Ileen Emery and
Phyllis Wahl, both of Greenbush.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
one son, Robert; and her brother, Harold Skerritt.
