Joyce Waale, 76

Thief River Falls - Joyce Waale, 76, died on Saturday, October 19, 2002 at her home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 Waale, Joyce p.m. on Wednesday, October 23 (today) at the Abundant Life Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays will be the organist and LeRoy Aasland will be the soloist. Special music will include "Softly and Tenderly" and "In the Garden." Casketbearers will be Lyle Docken, Lance Lee, Mike Gast, Marlyn Sistad, Steve Waale and Ron Sannes. Honorary casketbearers will be all of Joyce's family, friends and the First Care Hospice Staff. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Joyce Irene Jackson was born on March 24, 1926, the daughter of Bryant Andrew and Helen Esther (Malakowsky) Jackson in Lockhart. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Beltrami and following her marriage, was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Nielsville. She attended Lockhart Elementary School, as well as Ada High School, graduating in 1944. While in high school, Joyce played basketball and following graduation, worked at the JC Penney's store in Ada.

On June 25, 1946, Joyce was united in marriage to Ole Gunerius Waale in Lockhart. The couple made their home and started their family in rural Nielsville. In 1957, they moved to Thief River Falls and resided there ever since. In earlier years, Joyce worked as a coat checker at the American Legion and VFW in Thief River Falls. Her main joy was to stay at home and raise her children.

Joyce was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, taught Sunday School at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and St. Petri Lutheran Church in Nielsville. She loved to embroider, do crossword puzzles, watch television, and collect Avon, angel figurines and dolls. She also enjoyed reading, traveling and camping, but most of all, she enjoyed making a home and spending time with her children and granchildren and visiting with her friends and family.

Survivors include her husband, Ole of Thief River Falls; children, Patricia JoAnne Nelson of Parkers Prairie, Cynthia Kay Waale of Thief River Falls and Brent Thomas Waale of Thief River Falls; four grandchildren; three great-grandchilren; three brothers, Jon Jackson of Yountville, Calif., Eugene (Betty) Jackson of Fruito, Colo. and Sidney (Emily) Jackson of Gary; four sisters, Helen (Merle) Docken of Ada, Laurel (Kenneth) Lee of Ada, Marjorie (Harry) King of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and June (William) Wear of Fallon, Nev.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Jackson; a son, Douglas Keith Waale; and a granddaughter.
