- Dora J. Vraa, 92, formerly of Goodridge, died
Friday, April 19, 2002 at Eveleth Health Care
Center in Eveleth.
Funeral
services were held
Tuesday,
April 23, at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in
Goodridge with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating.
Margie Iverson was the organist, and Deb Farris was
the soloist. Casketbearers were Dora's grandsons:
Tim Vraa, Anthony Vraa, Douglas Vraa, Eric Vraa,
Steve Vraa, Neal Vraa, Tom Vraa, Kevin Vraa, and
Mike Vraa. Interment was in Rosendahl Cemetery,
rural Goodridge, with Green Funeral Home of Thief
River Falls in charge of the
arrangements.
Dora
Tangen was born on September 23, 1909 in Fosston,
the daughter of Christian and Marie (Solberg)
Tangen. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in
Fosston and confirmed at Rosendahl Lutheran Church.
When Dora was about two years old, she moved with
her family to Reiner Township of Pennington County
where they purchased a farm. She attended Lundwood
School District 56, and following her schooling,
she remained at home to care for her mother who
died in 1927. In 1929, Nellie went to Duluth with
her sister, Sena, and Alice Jahr and worked as a
domestic for three years.
On
November 6, 1932, the day Franklin D. Roosevelt was
elected President, Dora was united in marriage to
George Vraa at the Lutheran parsonage in Thief
River Falls with Rev. Fjelstad officiating. The
couple made their home with and worked for Johnny
Coan. In 1933, they moved, renting a place on the
Herb Race farm in Reiner Township. In 1936, they
purchased the Ervik farm in Reiner Township with
Dora's brother, Henry. In 1942, the couple moved to
Duluth where George went to work for U.S. Steel,
and Dora stayed home with their sons. In 1946, they
returned to the Goodridge area, purchased the
Ernest Fort farm in Reiner Township, and continued
to reside and farm there until 1983. In 1972, Doris
started working at the turkey plant in Thief River
Falls and was employed there for eight years. In
1983, she and George moved to Goodridge, and in
1986, they moved to Embarrass to be near their son,
Curtis, and his wife, Laurie. George died in 1988,
and that fall, Doris returned to Goodridge. She
moved to Gunderson Apartments in Thief River Falls
in 1995.
She
was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and enjoyed
dancing with her husband and traveling with her
sons.
Doris
is survived by two sons, Earl (Lois) Vraa of
Sarona, Wisc. and Curtis (Laurie) Vraa of
Embarrass; nine grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
In
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death
by her parents; three sisters, Sena, Cora, and
Mable; and a brother, Henry.
