Dora Tangen was born on September 23, 1909 in Fosston, the daughter of Christian and Marie (Solberg) Tangen. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Fosston and confirmed at Rosendahl Lutheran Church. When Dora was about two years old, she moved with her family to Reiner Township of Pennington County where they purchased a farm. She attended Lundwood School District 56, and following her schooling, she remained at home to care for her mother who died in 1927. In 1929, Nellie went to Duluth with her sister, Sena, and Alice Jahr and worked as a domestic for three years.

On November 6, 1932, the day Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President, Dora was united in marriage to George Vraa at the Lutheran parsonage in Thief River Falls with Rev. Fjelstad officiating. The couple made their home with and worked for Johnny Coan. In 1933, they moved, renting a place on the Herb Race farm in Reiner Township. In 1936, they purchased the Ervik farm in Reiner Township with Dora's brother, Henry. In 1942, the couple moved to Duluth where George went to work for U.S. Steel, and Dora stayed home with their sons. In 1946, they returned to the Goodridge area, purchased the Ernest Fort farm in Reiner Township, and continued to reside and farm there until 1983. In 1972, Doris started working at the turkey plant in Thief River Falls and was employed there for eight years. In 1983, she and George moved to Goodridge, and in 1986, they moved to Embarrass to be near their son, Curtis, and his wife, Laurie. George died in 1988, and that fall, Doris returned to Goodridge. She moved to Gunderson Apartments in Thief River Falls in 1995.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and enjoyed dancing with her husband and traveling with her sons.

Doris is survived by two sons, Earl (Lois) Vraa of Sarona, Wisc. and Curtis (Laurie) Vraa of Embarrass; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Sena, Cora, and Mable; and a brother, Henry.
