Alice Mae Vlchek, 87

Vlchek obit Thief River Falls -Alice Mae Vlchek, 87, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and the soloist was Al Walseth. Casketbearers included Dave Johnson, Dwight Johnson, Mylan Abrahamson, and Al Walseth. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Mae Carlson was born on April 1, 1915 in Gatzke, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Hegg) Carlson. She was baptized at home in Rollis Township near Gatzke and attended school in Gatzke. She stayed home and took care of the house for her dad and brothers after her mother died when Alice was 13 years old.

In 1933, she was united in marriage to Richard Vlchek at Middle River. The couple farmed near Gatzke for a short time and then moved to Wenatchee, Wash. Alice worked in the Washington area, picking fruit and tending bar. In 1947, the couple returned to Thief River Falls where Alice worked at the Eagles Club and Red Owl Store. Richard died on April 1, 1962. Alice retired in the late 1980s and moved to Valley Home in 1998.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Alice in death were her husband, parents, and five brothers, Raymond, Carl, Harold, Hjalmer, and Norman Carlson. 003B2002JU19
