Davis Vilen, 68

VilenDavisThief River Falls - Davis Vilen, 68, died on Thursday, October 10, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 15 at Evangelical Covenant Church with Rev. Merrill Kindall officiating. Helen Dahlstrom was the organist and a duet was performed by Marshall Vagle and Judy Inglis. Casketbearers were Dave Wilson, Tom Weleske, Arden Gustafson, Sander Gustafson and Elwood Carlson. Interment was in Riverview Memorial Gardens in Lancaster.

Davis Lee Vilen was born on March 6, 1934, the son of Davis A. and Dorothy (Olson) Vilen in Lancaster. He was baptized and confirmed at Mission Covenant Church in Hallock. He grew up and attended school in Hallock. He also attended and graduated from the Agricultural School in Crookston. On December 13, 1985, Davis was united in marriage to Jo Barros in Lake Bronson. He worked and traveled extensively as an engineer for Thermo King of Minneapolis. He retired in the early 1980s. In 1985, the couple moved to Lake Bronson, then to Thief River Falls, where they have since resided.

Davis enjoyed tinkering and fixing things. He was an avid Indy race fan and at one time, worked in the pit crew for the Thermo King Race Team.

Survivors include his wife, Jo; two stepchildren, Robert (Patricia) Updegrave and Sharon (Roger) Swift, all of San Diego, Calif.; four step-grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy Vilen of Thief River Falls; and sisters, Jeanette Bockwitz of Minneapolis and Debbe Duden of Minneapolis.

Davis was preceded in death by his father, Davis A. Vilen; brother, James; and a step-grandson.
