Joan Vatnsdal, 58

Badger - Joan Vatnsdal, 58, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at Oiland Lutheran Church, rural Greenbush, with Rev. LeRoy Flickinger officiating. Lynn Balstad was the pianist, and Carol Gregerson was the vocalist. Casketbearers were Terry Buer, Billy Roy Holum, Jason Kotowicz, Darrin Vatnsdal, Ryan Vatnsdal and Neal Vatnsdal. Interment was in Oiland Lutheran Cemetery with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.

Joan Rae Buer was born on July 29, 1942 in Scobey, Mont., the daughter of James and Lucy (Girard) Buer. She grew up in Scobey, graduating from Scobey High School in 1960. She attended Kinmen Business University at Spokane, Wash.

On July 29, 1964, she married Orelle Vatnsdal at Scobey, Mont. The couple operated a Conoco Service Station in Scobey from 1965 to 1969 when they moved to Moose township of Roseau county near Badger where they farmed until 1989. From 1989 to 1993, Joan managed the VFW Club in Badger. She then helped her husband in his repair shop until 1997 when she retired due to ill health.

Joan is survived by her husband, Orelle; a son, Nathan Vatnsdal of Grand Forks, N.D.; a daughter, Natasha (Kelly) Kotowicz of Alvarado; three grandchildren; two brothers, James Buer and Quentin Buer of Scobey, Mont.; and four sisters, Eugene Vanderpan of Scobey, Mont., Delores Billehus of Badger, Aida Buer of Great Falls, Mont. and Patricia Nelson of Spokane, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gerald Lebal; and a sister in infancy.
