- James R. Van Camp Sr., 73, died on Sunday,
August 24, 2003 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks,
N.D.
Funeral
services will be held at
10
a.m. on Wednesday, August 27 (today) at Wesley
United Methodist Church in Grand Forks, N.D.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to
services at the church. Interment will be in
Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks,
N.D.
James
R. Van Camp was born in Grafton, N.D., on February
19, 1930 the son of Raymond and Altha (Walker) Van
Camp. He graduated from Drayton High School in 1947
and attended Morningside College and Mayville State
Teacher's College, where he received his bachelor
of science degree in 1951. James served in the U.S.
Air Force from 1951 to 1953.
He
married Louise Larson on June 30, 1952 in Whitman,
N.D. He received his master's degree from the
University of North Dakota, completed post-graduate
work as USC, Marquette and Stanford and was awarded
a Fulbright Scholarship to attend the Institute of
European Studies in Turin, Italy. James taught in
Adams, N.D., and Grafton, N.D., before moving to
Grand Forks in 1963 where he was a school principal
for Grand Forks Public Schools for 27 years. He
retired in 1990 and spent summers at Maple Lake and
winters in Arizona. James enjoyed traveling,
photography, music and sports.
Survivors
include his wife, Louise; a son, James Van Camp Jr.
of Gilby, N.D.; daughter, Susan Blue of Prescott
Valley, Ariz.; five grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews,
grand nieces and nephews and special
friends.
James
was preceded in death by his parents, a sister,
Arlene Devig and a brother-in-law, Marvin
Devig.
