Roy Vagle, 88

Karlstad - Roy A. Vagle, 88, died Friday, January 25, 2002 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 28, at Vagle obit 1/30 Heritage Christian School in Karlstad with Rev. Bryan Rengstorf and Rev. Bob Ludwig officiating. Vocalists included Robert Thompson, Dean Johnson and Kurt Aakre, Roy's boys and his grandchildren. Casketbearers were his grandchildren, Jana, Jonathan, Angela, Laura, Daniel, Michael, Brendon and Justin, and friend, Palmer Hallberg. Interment was in Karlstad Cemetery with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad in charge of the arrangements.

Roy A. Vagle was born on March 8, 1913 in Cannon Township of Kittson County near Lake Bronson, the son of Ole and Inga (Nelson) Vagle. He grew up and attended school near Lake Bronson.

On November 18, 1939, he was united in marriage to Irene Johnson at the Karlstad Pentecostal Church. The couple lived and farmed in Springbrook Township until 1977 when they moved into Karlstad. Irene died on January 4, 1985.

On December 31, 1988, Roy married Myrtle Sands at the Karlstad Assembly of God Church. The couple has resided in Karlstad.

Roy was a life-long member of the Karlstad Assembly of God Church, serving as deacon for 39 years and active in a variety of church affairs. He was also a charter member of the Gideons, Kittson County Camp. He delivered Meals on Wheels from 1993 to 2001 and was active in the Karlstad Senior Citizens group. In 1998, he was named Kittson County Senior Citizen of the Year.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; four sons, Royle (Marie) of Tulsa, Okla., Neil (ReNae) of Roseau, Mark (Patti) of Burnsville and Tim (Dawn) of Hillsdale, Mich.; a stepson, Sonny (Janet) Sands of Kalispell, Mont.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, John of Great Falls, Mont. and Lloyd (Alice) of Big Lake; a sister, Pearl (Peter) Thompson of Strandquist; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a stepdaughter, Kristina; and his siblings, Clifford, Arthur, Olga, Edith and four in infancy. A00003B2002JA30
