River Falls - Emil J. Vacura, 70, of Thief
River Falls, died on Monday, August 12, 2002 at
Northwest Medical Center in Thief River
Falls.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, August 16 at Redeemer
Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev.
Arlen Hermodson officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the
organist and Deland Elseth was the soloist. Musical
selections included "I'll Rise Again" and "How
Great Thou Art." Interment was in Barnett National
Cemetery in Badger. Military rites were provided by
the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and
Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2793.
Emil
J. Vacura was born on July 31, 1932, the son of
Emil Sr. and Pearl (Goodwin) Vacura in Badger. He
was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith
and attended country school in the Badger area.
Emil worked on the family farm. On March 10, 1954,
he entered the United States Army in Fargo, N.D. He
was stationed on Antiwetok Island and was Honorably
Discharged on March 10, 1956.
Emil
was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Potts in 1956.
The couple had five children. In 1980, Emil married
Lyla Troland at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The
couple lived in Thief River Falls.
Emil
took over the family farm and ran it for years and
also worked construction for many years. He
eventually went to work for Farmers Union in Thief
River Falls, and for the last 13 years he worked at
the O.D.C. as a carpenter.
He
enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and hunting.
Emil also did a lot of woodworking.
Survivors
include his wife, Lyla; four children, Julie (John)
Pacheco of Webster, Fla., Adele (James) Blake of
Michigan City, Ind., Janis (Jeff) Ransom of
Michigan City, Ind. and Marvin Vacura of Oxford,
Fla.; three step-children, Lana (Carter) Schultz of
Casselton, N.D., Mark Troland of Fridley and Lori
Troland of Texas; 13 grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; two brothers, Morris (Sharon)
Vacura and David Vacura, both of Badger; one
sister, Irene Svir of Badger; and several nieces
and nephews.
Emil
was preceded in death by his parents; one son,
Michael; a sister, Lucille Thompson; and a brother,
Bob Vacura.
