Eldon Uppman, 75

Mahnomen - Eldon "Uppie" Uppman, 75, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at his home in Mahnomen.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 28 at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen with Rev. Kristen Larsen-Schmidt officiating, assisted by Nathan Lundgren. Dorothy Goos was the organist and Nathan and Doreen Lundgren were the vocalists. Casketbearers were Neil Toso, Ted Bement, Ilton Thorpe Jr., Darvin Schoenborn, Rob Uppman and Rob Thompson. Interment was held in Riverside Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lancaster with military honors accorded by the Isaacson-Bjorge Post #31 of the American Legion.

Eldon Henry Uppman was born on June 6, 1927, the son of Andrew and Marie (Lager) Uppman near Hallock. He was raised on the family farm near Lancaster and attended school there. At the age of 17, he entered the United States Navy. After his discharge, he returned to Lancaster where he operated the Knotty Pine Cafe. He later worked for Douglas Aircraft in California and was employed in several construction projects throughout the world, including Greenland and Liberia. Then, he was employed at the mines near Babbitt for many years. On December 17, 1966, Eldon was united in marriage to Delphine Pearson Elfstrom in Virginia. The couple made their home in Babbitt. In 1969, they moved to Mahnomen where he worked for Hanson Ford and later for Fargo Ford in sales. In the late 1980s, Eldon operated the Mahnomen Implement and more recently, moved his business to his home west of Mahnomen where he sold and repaired farm machinery and autos.

Eldon was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed music, especially polka and waltz. He was an avid golfer and loved to go to auctions.

Survivors include his wife, Delphine on Mahnomen; three sons, Doug (Terri) Elfstrom of Eden Prairie, Milo (Cindy) Elfstrom of Green River, Wyo. and Paul (Brittani) Elfstrom of Frisco, Texas; two daughters, Tina (Mike) Borgen of Perley and Cindy (Joey) Boroski of Lancaster; one brother, Wilfred (Jane) of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Vivian (Palmer) Rundquist of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. A00003B2002OT02
