- Wayne A. Ulferts, 76, died Saturday, May 25,
2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today
(Wednesday, May 29) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church
in Warren. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery
in Warren.
Visitation
was held from 6 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. time of
remembrance on Tuesday, May 28, at Quanrud-DuBore
Funeral Home in Warren. Visitation will also be
held for one hour prior to services at the
church.
Wayne
Arthur Ulferts was born on December 18, 1925 in
Clara City, the son of Joseph J. and Cora
(VanBuren) Ulferts. He graduated from Clara City
High School in 1943 and attended Hamline
University. Wayne enlisted and served with the U.S.
Army Air Force and was discharged with the rank of
sergeant in 1946. He attended St. Cloud State
University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science
degree in 1949. He served in the National Guard as
an administrative assistant in Nome, Alaska before
returning to St. Cloud University where he received
a teaching degree.
In 1953,
Wayne married Jean Buzzell of Jamestown, N.D. He
taught and coached in St. Thomas, N.D., Ogilvie,
Kennedy, and Newfolden. In 1961, he was selected
for the state of Minnesota's inaugural counseling
guidance at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He
then pursued a counseling and guidance degree at
SCSU and UND and received his master's degree in
1966. Wayne served as a high school principal in
Newfolden and superintendent of public schools in
Echo, Browns Valley, and Hendrum. In 1977, he
purchased the Coast to Coast (TrueValue) store in
Warren.
Survivors
include his wife, Jean; two sons, Jay of Warren and
David (Jenny) of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Jan
(Jim Stewart) of Fargo, N.D. and Lori (Kyle
Kedrowski) of St. Cloud; four grandchildren; a
brother, Ray (Helen) Ulferts of Sandpoint, Id.; six
sisters, Pearl (Robert Martin) of Santa Rosa,
Calif., Ferne Wright of Iowa, Hazel Hasemeyer of
Hudson, Wisc., Leone Olson of Hibbing, Joan (Locke
Mills) of Carlisle, Iowa, and Roma Peterson of West
St. Paul; and several nieces and
nephews.
Preceding
Wayne in death were his parents; a brother,
Russell: and two sisters, Clara and
Ruth.
