Red Lake Falls - Thomas Tydlacka, 82, died on Monday, September 8, 2003 at his home from cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with the Rev. Lawrence Wagner OSB concelebrating and the Rev. Gerald Noesen presiding. Casketbearers were Todd Tydlacka, Tammy Torgerson, Tim Tydlacka, Tony Tydlacka, Jessica Tydlacka, Kari Tydlacka, Peter Tydlacka and Angie Tydlacka. Honorary casketbearers were Alan Tydlacka, Brian Tydlacka, Avery Schaeppi, Jennifer Torgerson, Andrea Tydlacka, Nikki Tydlacka, Patti Torgerson, Kyle Torgerson, Billie Torgerson, Maya Tydlacka, Caleb Tydlacka and Truman John "T.J." Tydlacka. Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #22 of Red Lake Falls.

Thomas T. Tydlacka was born on June 16, 1921 in Buckholtz, Texas, the son of Charles and Frances (Kolenovsky) Tydlacka. He later moved with his parents to Taylor, Texas. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Taylor and attended Texas A and I before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Forces on August 5, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas. He had pilot training at the University of Minnesota, receiving his commission on April 15, 1945 in Douglas, Ariz.

On June 30, 1945 he married Myrtle Ecker in Minneapolis. The couple lived in Lincoln, Neb., and Fredrick, Okla. Thomas was honorably discharged at Ft. Sam Houston on September 14, 1946. They co-owned and operated the Corner Café and Hotel in Henning and in 1948, they purchased the L.B. Hartz agency store in Red Lake Falls. Thomas retired in 1980.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the American Legion, Red Lake Falls Civic and Commerce Association, Sportsmens Club and Pathfinders Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His grandchildren would often accompany him and he enjoyed teaching them the sport.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; five children, Thomas, Jr. (Bonnie) of Pensacola, Fla., Charles (Julie) of Viking, Michael (Bobbie) of Hutchinson, Jerome "Pete" (Bonnie) of Red Lake Falls and Mary Jo (Bob) Schaeppi of North St. Paul; one brother, Monsignor George Tydlacka of Manor, Texas; one sister, Helen Konapka of Livingston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, infant Charles, Capt. Victor Tydlacka, Monsignor Jerome Tydlacka and Domino Tydlacka; and two sisters, Evelyn Havelka and Claudine Gest.
