Gilbert Trontvet, 82

Thief River Falls - Gilbert Trontvet, 82, died Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

A funeral service will be held on Trontvert obit Thursday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Jim Howard officiating. Carolyn Trontvet will be the organist. Special music will be provided by the Berean Band and granddaughter Amy Ryan on the saxophone. Casketbearers will include grandsons Scott Wessell, Seth Tveiten, Ronald Erickson Jr., Phillip Trontvet, Gilbert Trontvet, Erick Trontvet, Daniel Hamon, and Randy Ryan. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service today (Wednesday, April 10) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Gilbert Elmer Trontvet was born on September 23, 1919 at his parents' home in Star Township of Pennington County, the son of Olaf and Gunda (Rensla) Trontvet. He was baptized and confirmed at Eklund Lutheran Church in Goodridge and attended Cloverleaf Country School near Goodridge. Gilbert and his brother, Norris, farmed together and relocating to a farm northeast of Thief River Falls in 1944.

On November 28, 1952, Gilbert was united in marriage to Clarice Mae Skyberg at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls. In 1953, the couple purchased their dairy farm where they farmed and raised their family until retirement. Clarice died on September 22, 2001. Since December of 2001, Gilbert had resided with his son, Dan and Dan's wife, Janeece, until moving to Oakland Park Nursing Home on April 5.

Gilbert was a member of The Evangelical Free Church, serving on the church board. He also served as supervisor of North Township for 19 years.

He enjoyed hunting with his family, farming, buying and selling livestock, and especially visiting with family and friends.

Gilbert is survived by four daughters, Glenda (Joe) Wessel of Thief River Falls, Carolyn (Ronald) Erickson of Greenwell Springs, La., Rachel (Gary) Tveiten of Thief River Falls, and Phyllis (Stuart) Richie of New Hope; three sons, David (Tami) Trontvet and Daniel (Janeece) Trontvet, both of Thief River Falls, and James Trontvet of Hopkins; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norris (Dorothy) Trontvet of Thief River Falls and Orville (Bobbie) Trontvet of Grand Forks, N.D.; a sister, Janet (Orville) Kveno of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pearl Dalzell and Inga Trontvet; and a brother, Orvin Trontvet. A00003B2002AP10
