Earl Tripp, 83

St. Cloud &endash; Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud for Earl Douglass Tripp, age 83, of St. Cloud and Lake Havasu City, Ariz.,

who died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 in Phoenix, Ariz. at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Earl was born Dec. 18, 1919 in Viking, to William Hull and Julianna "Marie" (Kulseth) Tripp. He played semi-pro hockey States-Dominion League. He was nicknamed "Shorty" and was rated #1 goalie by the league. He played for both the Thief River Falls Thieves and the Fargo Moorhead Comets. Earl was a WWII veteran, enlisted in the Army in April 1942 and served his country until October 1945. After serving in the Army, he returned home and worked for the Soo Line Railroad in Thief River Falls for over 38 years and retired in 1980. He married Virginia Janelle Schalz on March 4, 1950 in

Thief River Falls. The couple moved to St. Cloud in 1994.

Earl is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Janelle Schalz Tripp; his son, Wayne Alan Tripp, his daughters, Mary Dawn Bishop, Rosann Marie Froehle, and Melissa Jayne Odom. He is also survived by his grandchildren and a great grandchild. A00003B2002JA29
