Ludger Tougas, 74

Red Lake Falls - Ludger Tougas, 74, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee with Father Gary LaMoine officiating. Barb Melby was the organist, and special music was provided by Carolyn Rystad and Lori Melby. Casketbearers were LeRoy Hruby, Michael Dessellier, Ronald Dessellier, Richard Tougas, Regis Amiot and Dale Sebenaler. Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at Brooks with Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Ludger Nordel Tougas was born on June 15, 1926 in Brooks, the son of Florian and Eugenie (Giasson) Tougas. He attended a country school near Brooks and started helping on the family farm. Ludger served in the U.S. Army, and following his honorable discharge returned to farming.

On November 4, 1953, he was united in marriage to Joyce Dessellier at Oklee. The couple lived primarily near Brooks and farmed until 1979 when they moved to Oklee. He also worked at American Crystal Sugar, Arctic Cat and on various construction jobs.

Ludger was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Oklee.

He enjoyed fishing and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Ludger is survived by his wife, Joyce of Oklee; five sons, Duane (Gloria) Tougas of Fargo, N.D., Darrell (Sandra) Tougas of Oklee, Donald (Lonna) Tougas of Strasburg, N.D., Darrin Tougas of Alexandria and Dean (Amy) Tougas of Strasburg, N.D.; two daughters, Deborah (Alan) Swanson of Goodridge and Diane Bladow of Perham; 17 grandchildren; four brothers, Aurel (Aurora) Tougas of Paynesville, Jerome (Mary) Tougas of Port Hueneme, Calif., Ernest (Geraldine) Tougas of Red Lake Falls and Philip Tougas of Milwaukee, Wisc.; and three sisters, Alexina (Nap) Amiot of Crookston, Cecelia Hunter and Clarice Tougas, both of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur Tougas and Regis Tougas; a sister, Rollande Sebenaler; a daughter, Donna Tougas; a granddaughter, Paula Tougas; two sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law. A00003B2000MY30
