- Wallace Tieman, 93, died Friday, January 2,
2004 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River
Falls.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday,
Jan. 6, at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Thief
River Falls, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating.
Casket bearers included Donald Longevan, Ronnie
Philipp, Brett Tieman, Myles Olson, Curtis Tieman
and Ted Koropatnicki. Interment was held at Bethany
Cemetery of Smiley Township in Pennington County.
Wallace
Tieman was born April 2, 1910 at Kratka Township in
Pennington County, the son of Barney and Caroline
(Golberg) Tieman. He was baptized and confirmed
into the Lutheran Faith at Bethany Lutheran Church.
He grew up and attended country school, Meadowlark
District 41, and attended Hanson Automotive School,
where he learned auto mechanics. In the early
1930's he worked for the D. E. Viker Farms near
Halstad, MN and after that, owned and operated a
trucking line between Thief River Falls and St.
Paul, with his partner, Cliff Hedeen. In later
years Wallace cut and sold firewood for many
families and businesses in Thief River Falls.
On
January 2, 1935, Wallace was united in marriage to
Agnes Anenson at Mavie. The couple farmed all their
years, raising small grain and livestock. Wallace
and Agnes enjoyed sixteen winters in McAllen,
Texas, where they spent their day's sight-seeing,
visiting with their many friends, participating in
flea markets and playing cards with fellow winter
Texans. Wallace and Agnes were experienced whist
players, who enjoyed playing their sons, Elwood and
Wayne, usually winning most of the games.
Wallace
was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where he
served on the church board. He was active in the
Republican Party, a member of the Masonic Lodge in
Thief River Falls, served on the Cloverleaf
Township Board and was a member of Farmer's Union.
He enjoyed attending auction sales, where he bought
and collected many cars and red tractors.
Survivors
include his sons, Elwood (Rhodella) of Goodridge
and Wayne (Lenay) of Bemidji; four grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren;
He
was preceded in death by his wife Agnes; his
parents; his sister, Belle Ryerson and brother,
