Falls - Gordon L. "Corky" Thompson, 76, of
Fergus Falls died Sunday, November 16, 2003, at the
Minnesota Veterans Home.
Funeral
services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the
Glende-Nilson funeral home in Fergus Falls, with
Chaplin Greg Hayek officiating.
Gordon
L. Thompson was born April 6, 1927 in New Maine
Township of rural Newfolden, the son of Osmond and
Esther (Peterson) Thompson. He attended school in
Newfolden, graduating in 1945. He entered the U.S.
Navy during WWII.
After
the war, he attended Bemidji State Teacher's
College, graduating in 1950. In 1952 he married
Pauline Svir in Badger. His teaching career
included schools in Badger, Newfolden, Karlstad,
Hawley, Moorhead and Fergus Falls, retiring in
1989.
He
became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home
and truly enjoyed the care and friendship he
received during his stay there. He was a caring,
loving person for his family, friends and
co-workers. He loved to talk and make people feel
special.
Survivors
include two children, Robert Thompson of Sun City,
Ariz. and Nancy (Dick) Stigen of Moorhead; five
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter,
Patricia; seven sisters, Irene, Gladys, Mabel,
Janette, Doris, LaVonne and Olive Ann; four
brothers, Omer, O.E. "Bud", two in infancy - Henry
and Robert.
The
family prefers memorials to the Minnesota Veterans
Home.
