- Agnes Thompson, 97, died Monday, July 30,
2001 at the Northfield Care Center.
Services
were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7, at
the Northfield Care Center Chapel with Rev. Les
Svenden officiating. Fran Evenson was the organist.
Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery in Leland, Iowa
with Benson Funeral Home in charge of the
arrangements.
Agnes
Louise Michaelson was born on September 13, 1903 in
Leland, Iowa. She finished high school traveling by
train to Albert Lea. After graduating from St. Olaf
College, she began a teaching career in Floyd and
Lake Mills, Iowa. In 1930, Agnes and her sister,
Ruth, traveled to Europe, visiting relatives and
touring the continent.
She
married Rev. Gjermund "Jerry" Thompson in 1935.
They served St. Stephen's in St. Paul until 1941
when they moved to Thief River Falls, serving 12
years at Trinity Lutheran Church. They served in
Eau Claire, Wisc. for nine years before moving to
New York City where Jerry served with the Lutheran
Counsel. In 1972, they retired in Northfield. Jerry
died in 1985. Agnes had resided at the Northfield
Care Center since 1998.
She
enjoyed entertaining, cooking and
needlework.
Survivors
include three sons, David (Marilyn) of Hastings,
John of Northfield and Frederick (Jean) of Port
Angeles, Wash.; three grandsons; and a
great-grandchild.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, parents and
nine siblings.
