Mae Theroux, 86

Red Lake Falls - Mae E. Theroux, 86, died Saturday, December 8, 2001 at Northwest Mae Theroux Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, December 12) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Polly Beyer will be the organist, and special music will be provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. All of Mae's grandchildren will serve as casketbearers. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Visitation was held Tuesday, December 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to today's services.

Mae Emma Demarais was born on May 16, 1915 in Gentilly, the daughter of John B. and Justina (Trudeau) Demarais. She grew up near Gentilly where she was educated and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church.

On February 12, 1934, she was united in marriage to Armond "Herman" Theroux at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gentilly. The couple lived and farmed on several farms in Red Lake County. In 1961, they began operating Theroux Hilltop Cafe and Gas in Red Lake Falls and continued to own and operated it until they sold it in 1967. Mae then worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home until her retirement in 1976. Armond died on December 15, 1975.

Mae was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and its Guild in Red Lake Falls and the Catholic Daughters. She also helped with the community One Fund drive.

She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, going to the casino, bowling, dancing, cooking, canning and especially family gatherings and reunions.

Mae is survived by nine sons, Russell Theroux of Albuquerque, N.M., Robert (LyNette) Theroux and Raymond Theroux, both of Las Cruces, N.M., Larry (Annette) Theroux of Oak Creek, Wisc., John (Doris) Theroux of Brooklyn Park, Wayne (Diane) Theroux of Ropesville, Texas, Armond (Shelley) Theroux Jr. of Tijeras, N.M., Daniel Theroux of Albuquerque, N.M. and Timothy Theroux of Thief River Falls; five daughters, Marlene Theroux of Eagan, Carol Proulx of Red Lake Falls, Shirley (Denny) Cameron of Floodwood, Katherine (Ted) Tollefson of Glyndon and Rose Mary Theroux of Fertile; 51 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene (Lloyd) Philion of Red Lake Falls and Alice (Harvey) Bombardier of San Pablo, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a granddaughter, Gina; a daughter-in-law, Patricia; six sisters, Laura Baril, Lucille Snyder, Marie Page, Virginia Houle, Eva Houle and Delia Bombardier; and two brothers, John Demarais and Bill Demarais.
