Manuel "Manny" Tesch, 68

Tesch_MannyThief River Falls - Manuel "Manny" Tesch, 68, died on Friday, September 12, 2003 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.

Graveside services and burial of ashes were held on Tuesday, September 16 at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Lidgerwood, N.D.

Manuel Francis Tesch was born on August 14, 1935 in Lidgerwood, N.D., the son of Gottlieb and Anna (Krone) Tesch. He grew up on the family farm in Lidgerwood, where he attended grade school and high school. Manny attended Valley City State College in Valley City, N.D., where he attained his teaching degree.

In 1955, he married Sylvia Keller. Manny had a love for music, which he shared with his children for many years. He taught band and choir in many different schools in North Dakota, including Fullerton, Menango, Leeds, Churches Ferry, York, Rugby, Park River, Hope, Page, Walhalla and Pembina. His teaching experience had him directing marching bands, concert bands, jazz bands and also choirs, pop choirs and many other solo and ensemble groups. After retiring from teaching, he worked at the MCI bus plant in Pembina.

Playing instruments and the piano were part of his hobbies. He also enjoyed being around local musicians and following bands. He played in a few bands and after he entered Valley Home in Thief River Falls in 1998, he shared his talents with the residents there.

Survivors include five children, Deborah (Carl) Beckelheimer of Sandston, Va., Susie (Craig) Fielding of Boynton Beach, Fla., Mike (Sara) of Del Ray, Fla., Jim (Kay) of Thief River Falls and Steve of Lantana, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Cordla of Clear Lake, S.D., Mida Eldavik of Moorhead and Lucinda Lawrence of Lidgerwood, N.D.

Manny was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry.
