Eugene Teggatz, 77

New Ulm - Eugene Teggatz, 77, formerly of Mentor, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, February 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor with Father Dave Super officiating. Cecily McGlynn was the organist. Casketbearers included grandsons Robert Bean, Mark Teggatz, Russell Taylor, Michael Hudok, Benjamin Meyer and Tyler Teggatz. Burial was in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Mentor. Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Eugene Richard Teggatz was born on September 29, 1923 in Reynolds, N.D., the son of George and Brita (Nash) Teggatz. He grew up in the Grand Forks, N.D. area and moved to Mentor in 1938.

On July 24, 1945, Eugene married Josephine Schindler of Red Lake Falls. The couple lived, raised their family and farmed near Mentor until 1985. Eugene also worked at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston and Detroiter Mobile Home in Red Lake Falls. From 1979 to 1988, Eugene and Josephine spent the winters in Clarksville, Ariz. In 1988, they moved to New Ulm.

Eugene enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, nature and family events.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine; four daughters, Beverly Bean of New Ulm, Nancy (Tom) Taylor of Maple Plain, Elaine (Steve) Hudok fo Anoka and Carolyn (John) Meyer of New Ulm; two sons, John of Milwaukee, Wisc. and Earl (Susan) of Chicago, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; two brothers, Louis of Temple City, Calif. and Raymond of McMinnville, Ore.; five sisters, Margaret Carl of Tacoma, Wash., Lyda Grendahl of Hillsboro, Wisc., Dorothy Burr of Garden Grove, Calif., Lily Schmaltz of Hillsboro, N.D. and Bernice Hangsleben of East Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl; a son, Eugene Michael; and a son-in-law, Bobby Don Bean.
