Alice Cornelia Taus, 90

Crookston - Alice Cornelia Taus, 90, of Crookston and formerly of Climax, died at the St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston early Sunday morning, October 26, 2003, with her family at her bedside. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday Oct. 29, (today) at 10:30 a.m. at the Climax Lutheran Church in Climax, with the Rev. Nancy Werner officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River.

Alice was born in Huss Township of Roseau County, near Strathcona on October 8, 1913, the daughter of Gilbert and Sophie (Underdahl) Beito. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended country school. On Nov. 7, 1938, Alice was united in marriage to George H. Taus in Roseau. Because of his job as a Depot Agent for the Great Northern Railroad, the family lived in several communities, including Shelly, where they moved in 1953. In 1982 Alice and George moved to Climax. George died on May 17, 1989. Alice continued to live in her home until moving to the Villa St. Vincent in August of 1996. She was a member of the Shelly-Marsh River Lutheran Church in Shelly, and the WELCA organization of the church. She belonged to the VFW Auxiliary. Throughout her life Alice enjoyed baking, but especially enjoyed the time she spent in her garden. By nature she was a happy person, and her happiness was infectious to those around her.

Survivors include a daughter Sharyn (John) Scheff of Middle River; three sons George (Mary) of Bemidji, Dennis (Kathleen) of Climax, and Virgil of Wayzata; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother Arne (Thora) Beito of Wannaska; one sister Moreen Bahr of Spokanne, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters Gladys, Lillie, and an infant sister Sadie; and brothers, Lenny, Gilman, Marvin, Walter, Harry, Palmer, Elwood, Gerald, and an infant brother, Walter.
