Jimmy Ron Tanem was born on October 22, 1955, the son of Ingmar and Evelyn (Holthusen) Tanem in Thief River Falls. Jimmy was baptized at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and attended school in the Goodridge and Grygla school districts.

On May 21, 1977, he was united in marriage to Hazel Walker at Roseau. The couple lived in Roseau for a year before moving to Grygla in 1978. Jimmy worked for Marvin Windows and Beito Plumbing before beginning employment with Holthusen Construction in 1978 where he worked until the time of his death. During his employment with Holthusen Construction, Jimmy learned much from his brother, LeRoy "Mike," working his way up to the position of foreman.

He enjoyed farming and took over the family farm, raising cattle and hay. He also enjoyed making such things as shelves and wood stoves, fixing machinery, fishing and hunting, especially deer and grouse.

Jimmy was a member of Fourtown/Grygla Sportsmen's Club.

Survivors include three sisters, Rhodella (Elwood) Tieman of Goodridge, Margie (Charles) Cleven of Warroad and Judy Tanem of Grygla; two brothers, LeRoy "Mike" Tanem of Grygla and Larry Tanem of Warroad; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Arnold and Galen Tanem.
