- Elvira Taggart, 96, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on
Monday, August 4, 2003 at Grace HealthCare Facility in Lakeland,
Fla.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 11 at the First Baptist Church in Thief River Falls with the Rev. Carroll Erickson officiating. Casketbearers were Elvira's grandchildren and honorary casketbearers were her great-grandchildren and great great-grandson. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Elvira Anna Sophia Hallin was born in Vega Township of Marshall County on September 19, 1906, the daughter of Hans and Selma (Erickson) Hallin. She attended school in Vega Township and later worked at the Warren Hospital and the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis.
On June 15, 1931 she was united in marriage to Lester Taggart. The couple lived in Thief River Falls. Lester died in 1977 and in 1993, Elvira sold her home and moved to Lakeland, Fla., to live with her daughter. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, cooking and caring for her family. She enjoyed sharing her many stories of the Erickson family and their beginnings in the Vega area.
Survivors include her children, Ivy (Bob) Myhrer of Lakeland, Fla., Dorothy (Don) Johnson of Minneapolis, Lois (Adrian) Larson of Roseau, Marilyn (Jim) Erickson of Hawick, Duane (Sharon) of Greenbush, Carol (Peter) Teigen of Hawley, Jim (Marlene) of Newfolden and Fae (Gene) Becklund of Redwood Falls; 26 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; sisters-in-law, Ruth Hallin of East Grand Forks, Edna Taggart of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Hattie Taggart of Thief River Falls; a cousin and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
Elvira was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; daughter, LaVonne (Dolly) Gray; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; her parents; three brothers, Albin, Willie and Clifford; and two sisters, Della Ranstrom and Clarice Taggart. A00003B2003AG13
