Marjorie Swenson, 75

Thief River Falls - Marjorie Swenson, 75, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Marjorie Evelyn Hulme was born on April 23, 1926 in Chisholm, the daughter of John and Olga (Lahti) Hulme. She grew up and attended school in Chisholm. Marjorie attended the junior college in Hibbing and went on to attend the University of Minnesota on a music scholarship.

On June 18, 1947, she married Lowell Swenson, and the couple made their home in Minneapolis for 11 years. As a soprano, Marjorie sang in many Twin Cities churches. The family moved to Grand Forks, N.D. and lived there for two years before moving to Thief River Falls in 1959. While she enjoyed teaching voice at the University of North Dakota for a couple of years, Marjorie best enjoyed raising her family.

She, along with husband Lowell, was very active and supportive of community activities, giving many gifts and awarding numerous scholarships.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, Lowell; four sons, David (Nancy) of Baudette, Alan (Kimber) of Cody, Wyo., Robert (Debra) of Anchorage, Alaska and Philip (Laurie) of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Hulme; and a sister, Helene Traine. A00003B2001JL25
