Marlys Swanson, 68

Thief River Falls - Marlys Swanson, 68, died Thursday, March 8, 2001 at her home in rural Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at Swanson Obit 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, March 14, at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Phyllis Dalager will be the organist, and the soloist will be Van Swanson. Casketbearers will be Bruce Elseth, Deland Elseth, Rick Swanson, Anthony Wold, Mike Wiebolt and Rick Arbues. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation was held Tuesday, March 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Marlys Claire Elseth was born February 17, 1933 in Newfolden, the daughter of Benhart and Minnie Elizabeth (Nelson) Elseth. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and attended school at Newfolden, graduating from Newfolden High School in 1951.

On June 19, 1951, Marlys was united in marriage to Lenord James Swanson at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Past employment included secretarial positions at Union State Bank in Thief River Falls and St. Hilaire School in St. Hilaire and the print shop at Arctic Enterprises in Thief River Falls.

Marlys was a Sunday school teacher at Zion Lutheran Church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Thief River Falls.

She enjoyed decorating, ceramics, bowling, gardening and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and neighbor children.

Marlys is survived by her husband, Leonard of Thief River Falls; two daughters, Kathi Jo (Rick) Arbues of Laguna Hills, Calif. and Jani (Mike) Wiebolt of Breezy Point, a son, Hal (Tami) Swanson of Baxter; six grandchildren; a sister, Lori (Kenneth) Swenson of Warren; three brothers, Harlan (Verna) of Albert Lea, Gerald (Carol) of Peoria, Ill. and Bernard (Bonnie) of Crookston; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; an aunt; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lester and Basil; a daughter in infancy; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Katharine Swanson; and three brothers-in-law.
