Fran Stromberg, 80

Stromberg-FranThief River Falls - Fran Stromberg, 80, died on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 21 at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Barbara Hauger was the organist and Darryl Tveitbakk was the soloist. Casketbearers were Eric Stromberg, Layne Stromberg, Tyler Stromberg, Eric Thorson, LeRoy Stumpf and Kenneth Berg. Honorary caksetbearers were Leonard Furuseth, Neil McEwen, Bob Mattson, Marv Hanson and Order of Eastern Star. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Frances Marie Stenberg was born on June 26, 1922, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Wyman) Stenberg in Thief River Falls. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. Following high school, she attended and graduated from Northwestern School of Nursing in Minneapolis with a degree as a registered nurse.

On March 6, 1949, Fran was united in marriage to Clarence Stromberg. She was employed for over 30 years in various positions of administration and academic areas of nursing, including working at the Falls Clinic, as director of nurses at Oakland Park Nursing Home, supervisor of Rehabilitation Unit at Northwest Medical Center and nurse educator of the Thief River Falls Technical Institute. Fran was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Minnesota Education Association, Agassiz Health Systems Agency, Joint Underwriters Association, was Governer's appointee to Malpractice Commission Department of Commerce, a life member of Northwestern Hospital Services Auxiliary, Winslow Order of Eastern Star (Worthy Matron) and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was active in the American and Minnesota Nurses Association and was a life member of Abbot-Northwestern Alumni Association. She served on the Board of Directors of Trustees of Northwest Medical Center and Violence Intervention Project.

Fran was also active in DFL politics and was a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in1980 and served as Minnie Township Clerk.

Survivors include two sons, John (Barb) of Thief River Falls and Dana (Betty) of Maple Grove; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother in infancy, Ralph.
