Jennie Strom, 77

Strathcona - Jennie A. Strom, 77, died Monday, July 16, 2001 at her home in Strathcona.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Eidsvold Lutheran Church at Halma with Jennie's nephew, Rev. Donald F. Peterson of Battle Lake officiating. Music was provided by organist Kirstin Olson and vocalists Tina Westman and Chelsea Hassel. Casketbearers were grandsons Scott Moser, Jeff and Troy Hassel, Bruce Knutson and David Zolondek and nephew Joey Wojciechowski. Interment was in Eidsvold Lutheran Cemetery at Halma with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.

Jennie A. Carlson was born on December 27, 1923 in Warroad, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Steel) Carlson.

On April 10, 1946, she married Paul W. Hassel at Roseau. The couple made their home in Warroad where Jennie was a homemaker and worked as a cook at Lu-J Cafe for several years. Paul died on May 2, 1960.

On August 25, 1964, Jennie married Clarence Strom in Thief River Falls. The couple lived at Halma, and Jennie worked as a cook at the nursing home in Karlstad. Clarence Strom died on February 20, 1993.

Jennie is survived by four daughters, Shirley (Eugene) Moser of Red Lake Falls, Wanda (James) Westman of Strathcona, Mary Jo (Wayne) Knutson and Ann Marie Fox, both of Warroad; two sons, Walter (Karen) Hassel of Roosevelt and Clarence "Skip" Strom of Halma; two brothers, Joseph Carlson of Warroad and Bennie (Ione) Carlson of Roosevelt; a sister, Bessie Markov of Warroad; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Clara, Edna, Abby and Dorothy; and a brother, Frank. A00003B2001JL25
