- Jennie Strandlie, 94, died on Thursday, May
13, 2004 at the Sheltering Oaks Manor in
Roseau.
Funeral
services for Jennie Strandlie
of Roseau were held on Monday, May 17, at the
Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseau.
Jennie
Strandlie, the daughter of Serene' and Alfred Olson
was born on April 18, 1910 in Salol. She attended
school in Redfield, S.D., and in 1929 she moved to
Roseau to help her father in the bakery. This
bakery later became the Honl's Bakery.
On
September 20, 1932 she and Alton Strandlie were
united in marriage. When they were courting they
were known as the "bread and butter" couple, as she
worked at the bakery and Alton worked at the
creamery. They lived in Wannaska where Alton was
the manager of the creamery. In 1944, they moved to
Roseau and Alton was hired as the manager of the
Land O' Lakes Milk Drying Plant.
Jennie
was active in many community affairs. She was a
member of the Messiah Lutheran Church LCW, and a 60
year member of the Martha Circle. She was active in
the American Legion Auxiliary, and also the Lady
Slipper Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening,
quilting, and picking blueberries very much.
Survivors
include her two children, James (Janet) Strandlie
of Thief River Falls and Janet Rose of Roseau; four
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren .
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Alton; sisters, Agnes Kveen and Gladys Hagen; one
brother, Other "Bake" Olson; and daughter-in-law
Elizabeth (Libby) Strandlie.
