Stephanson, 70
Rockford,
Ill. - Darold C. Stephanson, 70, formerly of
Thief River Falls, died on Wednesday, January 1,
2003 at his home in Rockford, Ill.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, January 6 at Redeemer
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford, Ill.
Casketbearers were Ben Cross, Terry Gobin, Paul
Harrison, Bill Kucenski, Terry Podeszwa and Dean
Reynolds. Interment was in the Veterans' Cemetery
in South Beloit, Ill.
Darold
Charles Stephanson was born on May 4, 1932, the son
of Claude and Adeline (Weflen) Stephanson in Thief
River Falls. His step-father, Oliver Ronning, was a
father to him in every sense of the word. He
graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950. He
moved to Rockford, Ill. in 1979 and has since
resided there. He is a veteran of the United States
Army, serving during the Korean War, from 1949 to
1952. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran
faith in 1956 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Thief
River Falls.
On May 5,
1956, he married Dorothy Louise Ulrich in Red Lake
Falls. Darold worked as a metallurgical technician
for RB&W of Rock Falls, Ill. and for Sundstrand
Aviation of Rockford, Ill., retiring in 1993. He
was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church,
serving as an usher, an elder, chairman of the
Social Ministry board and general handyman with the
church's sound system. He was also active and
supportive of the Youth Ministry, Neighborhood
Ministry, choirs, Hispanic Ministry and men's Bible
study, as well as Lutherans for Life.
Survivors
include his wife, Dorothy of Rockford, Ill.; a
daughter, Julie (Richard) Claussen of Tilden, Neb.;
sons, David (Pam) of Rockford, Ill. and Jon
(Rebecca) of San Diego, Calif.; seven
grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law,
aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
