Gladys
Stenberg, 89
Hastings
- Gladys Wilhelmina Stenberg, 89, known to
everyone as Grandma Honey, died on July 14, 2004 in
Hastings, exactly one month short of her 90th
birthday.
A private
service will be held for the immediate family,
after which Gladys will be buried next to her
husband in Greenwood Cemetery.
Gladys
Severson was born in St. Hilaire on August 14,
1914, to Elsie and Albert Severson. The family
moved to Thief River Falls during her school years,
and Gladys graduated from Lincoln High School in
1931. She married Otto Stenberg, also of Thief
River Falls, in 1935.
Otto and
Gladys were well-known members of the Thief River
Falls community for many years through their active
participation in the congregation of Trinity
Lutheran Church, through their ownership of the
East-Side Superette and the local Red Owl
supermarket, through Otto's years of service as a
Pennington County Commissioner, through their
support of the Union Lake Association and through
their many friendships with other members of the
Thief River Falls business community.
Survivors
include one daughter, Marilyn Stenberg Thompson of
Hastings; one son, Richard Stenberg of New York
City, N.Y.; two grandsons and two
great-grandchildren.
Gladys
was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, by
two brothers, Harry and Earl Severson, a sister,
Alice Brolin, and her son-in-law, Rev. David
Thompson.
