Ruby Stanghelle, 87

Newfolden &endash; Ruby Stanghelle, 87, died on Sept. 3, 2003 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were Saturday, Ruby Stanghelle Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.

Ruby Broten was born on April 4, 1916 in Marsh Grove Township, Newfolden, the daughter of Alvin and Palma (Windahl) Broten. They moved to the Broten farm in Foldahl Township in April of 1916. Ruby attended Woodland School, Warren High School and teacher training in Warren. She taught in rural schools and later worked at the Marshall County Court House. Ruby was baptized and confirmed in Norwegian at the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Marsh Grove Township. On December 27, 1941, she married Ragner Theodore Stanghelle in Viking, MN. They made their home in McCrea Township. Ragner died on March 2, 1979. She stayed on their farm nine years after husband died and in 1988, she moved to Warren.

Ruby was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School and belonged to the church circle, Ladies Aide and Lutheran Daughters of the Reformation (LDR). She was a 4-H Riverside Club leader and Girl Scout leader. She belonged to the Senior Citizen Club, McCrea Homemakers and Gideon Auxiliary. She had been an area director for Stonecraft Ministries. She was chosen Warren's Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1989.

She loved gardening, knitting, crocheting afghans, quilt making and Norwegian embroidery. Her hands were always busy.

She is survived by: Anita (Elmer) Carlson of Crystal; Elaine (Milan) Borsheim of Bagley, Mary (Mike) Coleman of Grand Forks, N.D., and Pastor Richard (Gail) Stanghelle of Lindstrom; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Ervin (Darlene) Broten of Viking, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Orville and Nelder and grandson, Jared Carlson.
