Earl Stalboerger, 80

Waubun - Earl Stalboerger, 80, died Sunday, March 17, 2002 at the Mahnomen Health Center in Mahnomen.

A mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 22, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun with Father Ron Meyer, OMI officiating. Lea Stech provided the special music. Lectors were Earl's sons-in-law, Kevin Lindberg and Tim Zerr. Casketbearers were grandsons Chris Stalboerger, Mark Zerr, James Lindberg, Alex Stalboerger, Andy Stalboerger, and Curt Stalboerger. Honorary casketbearers were Rose Mary and Pat Simon, Barb and Ed Scherping, Milo and Lucille Winter, Charlie and Ardyce Donner, Les and Cindy Bly, and Loren and Marge Fabre. Granddaughters Lisa Stalboerger, Francis Zerr, Ashley Stalboerger, Kim Dean, Natalie Lindberg, Kate Stalboerger, and Kelsy Stalboerger presented the gifts. Interment was in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Waubun with arrangements by Anderson Funeral Home of Mahnomen.

The son of Michael and Margaret "Maggie" (Winter) Stalboerger, Earl J. Stalboerger was born on August 15, 1921 on a farm east of Mahnomen where he grew up and attended a country school. As a young man, he worked for area farmers.

On June 20, 1945, he was united in marriage to Alvina Schonhardt at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. Earl was employed at the Waubun Box Factory prior to the couple's purchase of a dairy farm northeast of Waubun where they raised their family. After Earl retired at age 65, he and Alvina continued to make their home on the farm and up until four years ago, he enjoyed working for Scherpings and Fabres.

Earl and Alvina were recognized as the Mahnomen County Valley Farmer and Homemaker in 1989. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun and the Knights of Columbus.

Among the activities he enjoyed were playing cards, fishing, working on his lawn, and visiting with family and friends.

Earl is survived by his wife, Alvina of Waubun; three sons, Ken (Elta) of New London, Denis (Karen) of Warren, and Steven (Mary) of Moorhead; two daughters, Peggy (Kevin) Lindberg and Brenda (Tim) Zerr, both of Fargo, N.D.; three sisters, Martha (Vernon) Bucholz of Gary, Delores (Duane) Herfindahl of Grand Rapids, and Sally Herfindahl of Virginia; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Renee; a son, Rodney; four brothers; and a sister.
