Cleon Sparby, 81

Grygla - Cleon Sparby, 81, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 10 at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke with Rev. Sandra Hollands officiating. Gloria Sistad was the organist. Duets were presented by Muriel Larson and Mary Ann Lunsetter. Casketbearers were Cleon's nieces and nephews. Interment was in Landstad Cemetery at Gatzke with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Cleon Sparby was born on August 2, 1919 in Velt township of Marshall county, the son of Ole and Amelia (Libak) Sparby. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and grew up in Ekvold township of Marshall county.

Cleon worked as a farm laborer and at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls.

He enjoyed playing his mouth organ and steel guitar.

Survivors include a brother, Alton (Alva) Sparby of Grygla; two sisters, Ella Willman and Edel Nordvick, both of San Francisco, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Cleon was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, including one in infancy; and three sisters. A00003B2000FB14
