Lester
"Ed" Sorenson, 82
Bloomington
- Lester "Ed" Sorenson, 82, of Bloomington and
formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Dec. 15,
2003.
Funeral
services were held Thursday,
Dec. 18, at Normadale Hylands Methodist Church in
Bloomington. Interment was held at Ft. Snelling
National Cemetery.
Lester
Sorenson was born February 23, 1921, in Oklee, the
son of Thor and Bella (Vatterdahl) Sorenson.
He
served in the Navy during World War II in the
Pacific and the Air Force during the Korean War. It
was there that he met and married his wife Joyce in
1952. He taught math in San Antonio, Texas for two
years and then for 29 years in
Richfield.
He
was a member of the Hope Presbyterian Church for 43
years, where he served as an elder. He was a
current member of the Normandale Hylands Methodist
Church.
He
enjoyed crossword puzzles and vocabulary and won
first place in State Sr. Spelling Bees. He was a
sportsman and he enjoyed fishing, camping and trips
to his cabin near Duluth.
Survivors
include his wife Joyce; children, Eric (Bette Anne)
of Edina, Julie (Dave) Engel of Andover, Peter of
Bloomington and Meta (Michael) Van Skiver of Ft.
Collins, Colo.; three grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Loraas of
Duluth and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; a
step-mother, Vera Sorenson; sisters, Pauline
Sorenson-Mancini and Elaine Sorenson-Wuorior;
brothers, Vernon Sorenson and Robert Sorenson.
